Nights awake with the owl dream is an experimental sound and moving image work exploring the possibility of becoming proximate with more-than-human beings through a meditative experience of nocturnal images and owl song. The work focuses on producing a contemplative quality of attention, a strange, and perhaps even dream-like, mode of being with the more-than-human around us. It features the calls and songs of a pair of mated owls, and moving images recorded during full moons. The work is structured around a nocturnal process of noticing and becoming. The moving images oscillate between states of awareness, weaving attention through neighboring trees and the boundaries of a canyon by moonlight.
