Weather Feedback, 2024-Ongoing
Single and two-channel video with sound (series)
Dimensions variable
Weather Feedback consists of an ongoing series of seasonal video and sound performances that are site-specific and weather-dependent. It is an artistic research project that seeks to propose new modes of engagement with coastal atmospheric conditions through experiments with video and sound feedback, treating fog as an artistic material to collaborate with. The project proposes immersive encounters with seasonal fog to reorient perception towards an atmospheric condition that shapes coastal life.
The project takes place at natural reserves along the central coast of California during spring and summer months. Fieldwork at these sites focused on the observation of fog formation, presence, and duration, and developing a site-specific understanding of the ecology and topography of the place. Observations resulting from fieldwork inform the design of live video-projection experiments and performances through which this artistic research project seeks to produce an aesthetic experience of seasonal fog. The performances explore fog as an artistic material as well as a medium for sensing anthropogenic climate change through direct interaction. This research project seeks to produce an intensified experience of seasonal fog that requires a sensory recalibration contributing to a deeper perceptual encounter. The project aims to embrace the experience in order to turn attention to the health of the atmosphere and its interactions with the local ecosystems.
